Provincial Team Program Overview
 

The provincial team season kicks off each spring, when Basketball PEI selects men's and women's U15 and U17 teams.  All ages are based on December 31 of the year the tryouts occur.  The teams are chosen from open tryouts that occur in mid April and any Prince Edward Island resident who is in one of the two age categories is eligible and welcome to tryout.  Once the teams are chosen, they practice and compete together throughout the spring and summer. 
 

During the spring months, the provincial teams practice 2-3 times per week and play several games vs other PEI teams and NS & NB provincial & club teams.  In addition to these games teams will be playing in a number of tournaments, such as;. 

*Red Rock Classic (BPEI), Charlottetown, PE - July 6-8, 2012

Bluenose Classic (BNS), Halifax, NS - July 13-15, 2012  

Summerfest (BNB), Saint John, NB - July 20-22, 2012

*U15 & U17 Girl's National Championships - August 7-11
  University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, NB 

  Travel days are August 5th and August 12th, 2012

*U15 & U17 Boy's National Championships - August 1-5
  Bishop's University & Cegep de Sherbrooke, Sherbrooke, Quebec

  Travel days are July 30th & August 6th, 2012

Provincial Teams

The Basketball PEI, Provincial Team Program provides elite athletes with a unique opportunity to develop their skills through high quality summer practices and a challenging competition schedule. 

U15 Girls Provincial Team – females born in 1997 or later & 2 athletes born in 1996

U15 Boys Provincial Team – males born in 1997 or later & 2 athletes born in 1996

U17 Girls Provincial Team – females born in 1995 or later & 2 athletes born in 1994

U17 Boys Provincial Team – males born in 1995 or later & 2 athletes born in 1994

Note: PEI, Yukon & NWT can carry two overage players on each provincial team for National Championships as well as on the 2013 Canada Games teams.

Provincial Team Coaches Required 

Basketball PEI is now accepting applications for a head coach and an assistant coach for the U15 girls provincial team.  Interested candidates are asked to submit their coaching resume to the Basketball PEI office, before the deadline of Monday, February, 6th, 2012 (4:30 PM AST) in order to be considered.

Please note: that the selection of successful candidates will not necessarily be limited to those who apply.

Coaching Positions

While we encourage Head & Assistant Coaches to apply as a “coaching team”, individual applications will also be accepted for consideration.

Head Coach U15 = Full Level 2 NCCP Certification or full Introduction to Competition Advanced and minimum 2 seasons of experience as a head coach at a minimum of Grade 9 Level (or equivalent)

Assistant Coach U15 = Level 2 NCCP Certification or higher

Head Coach U17 = Full Level 3 NCCP Certification with a minimum of 2 seasons of experience as a head coach at a minimum of Grade 11 Level (or equivalent)

Assistant Coach U17 = Full level 2 NCCP Certification with a minimum of 2 seasons of experience as a head coach at a minimum of Grade 11 level (or equivalent)

Team Managers:  All teams will be required to identify a team manager.  This position will also be eligible for an Honorarium.

*All coaches must undergo a Police Records Check.

Honorarium:  Successful applications will be eligible to receive an honorarium (TBD).
